In some cases you would like people only to be able to vote FOR something and not AGAINST it. Creates a more positive attitude for many website uses.

So I would like to have the ability to turn of the "vote down"-arrow in the settings.

It would be very useful to be able to assign a status and then have a status dashboard/filter that would allow the user to display items based on an idea's status.  Some categories that come to mind are

• Already offered            
• Implemented
• In Progress
• Under Review

To make the module more flexible I would like to see custom fields. Title should stay, but the rest of the fields (add any number of fields) should be customizable. Example of custom field types:

• URLs (including validation to prevent multiple additions of identical URLs)
• Pictures (upload)
• Text-field without HTML
• Dropdown with pre-defined options
• Radio button

Allow the person who posted the idea to edit the idea as long as no one else has voted on it. The thought is, after someone has voted on it, the idea cannot change. This will simply enable a person to correct their mistakes if they find it after they post their idea.

As an admin, I would like to set a flag on a given idea to indicate that voting is closed for that idea. When set, a user may not vote for or against this idea.

Organize ideas by categories.

Categories can be either public or private. Ideas in the public categories as those everyone can see and contribute to. Ideas in private categories are only available to specific DotNetNuke security roles.

When there are lots of ideas posted, it will be more likely that a user will post duplicate ideas. Idea Exchange could allow a user to post an idea but before it is saved as an active idea, it searches the database for ideas that potentially match the new idea. If the user determine the idea is unique, he may post it. If the user decides the idea is not unique, he can select the matching idea and vote on it.

The matching will be done based on a scoring system. Only ideas that meet a particular score will be considered for possible matches.

Additionally, the matching could also consider idea categories. For example, an idea "Excel File Import" in the "Location Finder" category is not the same as "Excel File Import" in the "Store Locator" category.

You need to include an Idea Status field

Some status that we are already running into a need for:
* Published/Unpublished: Allow some security roles to create ideas, but only certain roles can publish them for voting.  This gives a way to review before publishing
* Active/Complete: Once an idea is implemented, you should be able to set the status to complete.  It would be nice to display these in an archive.
* Active/Accepted/Rejected: Is the idea still be actively voted upon, has it been accepted or rejected?
